Barsac

South-West France
Share
Barsac is a dessert wine produced in the Bordeaux region of France. It is made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes, cultivated in the vineyards of the Barsac commune. The wine is known for its sweet taste, with aromas of fresh fruit and honey. Barsac is produced from fully ripe grapes, which give it notable aromatic complexity. The grapes are hand-pressed and the juice is then fermented in oak barrels for approximately 12 months. This fermentation method gives the wine a woody character and creamy texture. Barsac is also renowned for its aging potential. It can be stored for many years without losing quality, becoming increasingly complex and rich over time. The oldest vintages may display aromas of dried fruit and nuts, with a lovely acidity that keeps them fresh and well-balanced. Barsac is generally served at cool temperatures, between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius, to highlight its aromas and sweetness. It pairs well with soft cheeses and fruit-based desserts, such as apple tarts or walnut cakes. It can also be enjoyed on its own for its complexity and richness.
